I was slightly amused as I read the article on the communist invited to speak at Lewiston-Auburn College (April 16), but the matter is quite serious. It disappoints me that L-A College resources would be wasted so some Bush-bashing communist could have a forum for his political philosophy.

I will not waste my time criticizing the details of comrade Sam Webb’s views, but I would like to take a moment to address the member of the L-A College faculty who commented, “We have a lot of students who are either directly in the military or have family in the military and … you couldn’t find a group that’s more in agreement with you about the ridiculousness of our present leader.”

What kind of person would suggest that folks affiliated with the military think our president is ridiculous? I would argue just the opposite.

As a military veteran and former L-A College student, I could not be more supportive of our president’s leadership, and I understand the seriousness of the war on terrorism.

If comrade Webb’s top priority is to see President Bush defeated, then I know Bush is doing OK, because Webb and his handful of fans at L-A College are all out to lunch.
