FARMINGTON – A potluck supper preceded the April meeting of Farmington Emblem Club 460. The new president, Rebecca Powell, opened her first meeting with the initiation of two new members, Michelle Wilson and Joan Phair. There were 43 members present.

Yearend reports were given by committees: Shannon Smith, total club earnings and cheering; Quinnale Kinsey, sunshine; Kamilla Hall, beano; Connie Reynolds, literacy; Nancy Chase, community service; Jean Corcoran, scholarships and disaster; Diana Jahn for Becky Hinkley, membership; Connie Small, ways and means; Diana Oliver, trustee inventory; and Lois Barker, Americanism.

Barker reminded members of Patriot’s Day being observed on Monday, April 19. She read a letter from servicewoman Sara Scott, which had been e-mailed to Scott’s mother about a day in the life of a young woman in the service stationed far from home.

Shannon Smith reported on money earned from the recent Longerberger basket beano sponsored by the club. She reminded members of the state convention to be held in Augusta the first weekend in June. She asked who plans to attend the national convention, with Powell in St. Louis, Mo., at the end of August.

The club voted on a person to be this year’s Citizen of the Year. That person will be honored on club’s May meeting night.

The once-a-year “Ladies Night Out” will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, at the Quad M restaurant in Fairbanks. The night is in honor of departed club members and those who have done so much for the club in past years. Secret Sisters (pals) will be identified that night.

Members volunteered to bake for an environmental group that will meet at Kineowatha Park in Wilton on April 28. The club voted to donate to the Cape Cod Hill School camp scholarship, the Mount Blue eighth-grade exchange trip to Hawaii, the Wilton Blueberry Festival, to Leslie Bull and Claudette Merchant for March of Dimes walks and to Kaitlyn Hall for a walk to benefit autism research.

The mystery gift was won by Becky Powell and the 50-50 by Quinnale Kinsey.
