NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) – A man was shot and killed in New Bedford late Saturday night, and police asked for the public’s help in finding the man’s killer.

After police received several reports of gunshots at about 11 p.m., officers found Robert Green Jr., 29, lying on the ground on Smith Street with a gunshot wound to his upper body.

Green was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, but died a short time later. Police said there was an exchange of gunfire, and that a car fled the scene.

Police asked for anyone with information about the shooting to contact police.
