AUBURN – As part of Earth Day 2004 celebrations, the city of Auburn is participating in a statewide backyard composting bin sale.

Through May 22, a home compost bin and how-to-guide with a combined retail value of $80 can be purchased for $31.50 (includes tax). The bin is black, has a 10-year warranty and is large enough for a family of five.

It is estimated 25 percent of the average household’s waste consists of yard trimmings and kitchen scraps that can be easily composted.

Order forms are available at the City Building, 45 Spring St., or Public Works at 296 Gracelawn Road.
