FARMINGTON – The National Day of Prayer, held the first Thursday in May, will have as a theme this year “Let Freedom Ring: The Freedom to Gather, the Freedom to Worship, the Freedom to Pray.”

Many communities across the country will join in observance of the day through a variety of events. A noon event will be held Thursday, May 6, in Farmington and Wilton. People will gather for an hour-long prayer ceremony at the gazebo in the Farmington Town Park and at the gazebo in Wilton’s Bass Park. The public is invited. The National Day of Prayer was established in 1952 by an act of Congress encouraging Americans to pray for the nation, its people and its leaders. The law was amended in 1988 and signed by President Ronald Reagan, establishing the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday of May each year.
