NORWAY – Madelene W. Cruz, 80, of Wilton, died late Saturday evening, April 24, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 23, 1924, in Wilton, a daughter of Maurice and Susie (Hammond) Fletcher. She received her education in local schools and eventually, after a lifetime of working and traveling throughout 49 of the 50 states, came back to her home town.
She was a caretaker and was an escort driver for wideload transport companies. An extravert by nature, she also enjoyed her waitressing jobs and her membership in Wilson Grange 321. In her free time she enjoyed crocheting, berry picking, cooking and baking and playing cards, particularly cribbage.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Roberts and her husband, Thomas of Mechanic Falls and Judith Robinson “Pen-Pen” of Las Vegas, Nev.; one son, Richard P. Caron of Jay; one brother, Cleon Fletcher and his wife, Althea of Wilton; beloved granddaughters, grandsons, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Maylene Collins.
