AUBURN – Colleen Mahan, educational coordinator for Community Little Theatre, is reviewing her acting classes for a spring series. She has outlined the possibilities. Students who are interested or have questions should call the box office at 783-0958 or access the theater’s Web site at www.laclt.com.

Story Dramatization (grades kindergarten to two): The class focuses on the process of story-telling through dramatization, using action, narration and dialogue. Emphasis is placed on movement, physical and vocal development and imagination expansion.

Creative Drama (grades three through five): The focus is to create a short play from an existing story and ideas from the students. Monologues may also be assigned.

Acting for the Stage 1 (grades six through eight), Acting for the Stage 2 (grades nine through 12) and Acting for the Stage 3 (adults): The focus is character exploration, movement, ensemble building and script analysis, which may be done through scene study and/or monologues.

Musical Theater Audition Workshop (all ages): The intensive workshop focuses on preparation and performance of a song for musical theater auditions. Students should bring in sheet music for a song they have memorized. Choices are analyzed for appropriateness and effectiveness. Students are coached on performance and technique. Proper presentation at an audition is also discussed and practiced. If time permits, cold readings may also be done.

Each class includes warm-ups (physical and vocal), movement, improvisation and imagination games. The main focus is process, not product. Memorization will be necessary. Parents may be invited to the final day of youth classes so students may share their experiences.

Mahan has advanced degrees in music and acting from Boston University, San Diego State University and Trinity Rep Conservatory, Providence, R.I. She has more than 20 years’ experience in performance and directing at professional and community theaters and teaching in her private studio, schools and theaters on both coasts.
