ORONO – Sophomore Sarah Bennis of Pownal picked up the win in two innings of work as the University of Maine roared to a 7-1 win over Colby in softball action Tuesday. The Black Bears (19-15) scored three runs in the third inning beginning with an RBI triple from sophomore Brittany Cheney.

Cheney scored again in a four-run fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Lauren Dulkis.

The White Mules (13-11-1) scored their lone run in the top of the fourth when freshman Miki Starr walked in sophomore Kara Fagan with the bases loaded.

Baseball

Bowdoin 7, St. Joe’s 4

BRUNSWICK – Ricky Leclerc hit the game-winning, three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to lift Bowdoin to a 7-4 victory over St. Joseph’s in baseball action Tuesday.

Jared Lemieux went 3-for-5 for the Polar Bears (20-11).

St. Joe’s (14-20) received home runs from Nick Arno and Matt Prunier.

Women’s lacrosse

UMass-Dartmouth 17, USM 12

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Freshman Katelyn Elliott and senior Megan Corfield each scored four goals to lead the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth to a 17-12 win over the University of Southern Maine in the first round of the LEC tournament Tuesday afternoon.

The Corsairs (10-5) built a five-goal advantage before intermission.

Men’s lacrosse

Plymouth State 7, USM 5

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Pat O’Malley netted three goals to help Plymouth State eliminate the University of Southern Maine from the LEC Tournament with a 7-5 victory Tuesday. Steve Skinner also added two goals for Plymouth (6-6). The Huskies (5-8) were led by Matt Butler who scored two goals and had two assists.
