The procession will begin at Meeting House Park.

FARMINGTON – Franklin County’s 7th annual March for Violence-Free Communities will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 30, beginning at Meeting House Park on Main Street across from the Superior Courthouse.

The march will conclude at Old South Church where guest speaker Attorney General Steven Rowe will address violence in communities. Speakers will include SAVES Director Janine Winn, director of the Children’s Task Force Steven Russell, sexual assault investigator for Franklin County Detective David St. Laurent and others.

The march is sponsored by Peace in Our Families, a task force of the Healthy Community Coalition. Supporters and participants of the march are concerned with all forms of violence that affect individuals, families and communities including domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, racial and ethnic violence, violence by and against children and homophobic violence.

The march is a way to bring together people of the Franklin County community and to show they recognize violence as an important issue. A strong showing of support sends a message to law enforcement, judges, offenders and the community in general that violence will not be tolerated.

Marchers are invited to carry signs and to pass out flyers with information about violence and local resources. A short break for snacks and cold drinks will follow the march, after which the program will begin.

An open microphone will be provided for anyone who wishes to speak about the issue of violence.
