Residents are concerned about excessive partying, litter and noise on the road.

JAY – More than 300 people have signed a petition asking selectmen to take all necessary steps to make Parker Pond Road a town way or recreational easement.

Selectmen made the decision this month to solicit input to see if citizens wanted selectmen to pursue the road issue.

So far 326 signatures, the majority from Jay, have been collected on the petition. The signatures have not been checked to see if the people are registered voters, Town Manager Ruth Marden said.

A couple of residents along the dirt road that leads to Parker Pond posted it to written permission only or landowners owning property on the road.

The residents were tired of excess partying, litter and noise.

Parker Pond is considered a great pond by the state, a designation that provides for public use of the waters.

Selectmen, at their discretion, would present the layout to a town meeting for acceptance or rejection as a town way.
