Charlie Green stepped down shortly after missing a team trip to Florida.
POLAND – Charlie Green, who has served as varsity baseball coach at Poland Regional High School since it opened, has resigned.
Green, who coached the team from its inception in 2000, resigned shortly after he failed to show up for a team trip to Florida over April vacation.
Poland director of co-curricular activities Susan Robbins declined to reveal when or why Green resigned. She said she will nominate a permanent replacement at tonight’s school board meeting.
“The boys had a great trip,” Robbins said. “All of the information is going to be made public (Wednesday night).”
Junior varsity coach Scott Fennessy was named interim varsity coach for Poland’s game with Gorham Tuesday.
Green, who is a groundskeeper with the school’s maintenance department, failed to show up as planned when players, parents and chaperones gathered at the high school early on the morning of April 18 to depart for a spring training trip to Cocoa Beach, Fla., Fennessy took over for Green on the trip.
The Knights were 1-2 under Green.
