The $60,000 urgent need grant would be used to move a water line.

JAY – Residents voted Monday to accept a $60,000 urgent need grant – if the town receives it – to move a water line.

The town and the North Jay Water District has applied for the grant to the state Planning Office to relocate a fresh water main that supplies water customers in North Jay that runs underneath a residential septic system in North Jay.

The grant has been rejected but Town Manager Ruth Marden and District Superintendent Richard Jackson have appealed and submitted more information.

The town, district and resident Clover York Johnson are involved in lawsuits that need to be resolved.

The location of the septic system and water line violates the state’s drinking water law and subsurface waste disposal rules.
