AUBURN – Yvette P. Pomeroy, 83, of 440 Minot Ave., Auburn, formerly of 210 Old Webster Road, Lewiston, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 26.
She was born in Lewiston on Nov. 1, 1920, the daughter of Adelard and Laura (Ouellette) Marois. She was educated in Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1939. She was a member of the Court Street Baptist Church.
In her younger years, she was a singer and a model for Lafayette Beverages, Inc., bottlers of Kist Soda. In 1943, she was the headliner for a weekly 15 minute radio show on WFEA radio in Manchester, N.H., where she sang songs popular at the time and spoke with soldiers sending messages to their loved ones.
She was credited with creating a style of singing called “Swing-Singing.” She also sang for James W. Hill Co. parties at the Rice-Varick Hotel in Manchester. She was also an accomplished self-taught piano player.
She married Eddie J. Pomeroy on Jan. 31, 1953. He passed away on March 6, 1993. During their 40 years together, they owned and operated numerous small variety stores in Maine. For several years she worked at Peck’s Dept. Store in Lewiston as a floor clerk and she worked for a while at Knapp Shoe. She retired from Central Maine Medical Center’s Purchasing department in 1982, after working there for 13 years. Her family was her greatest joy.
She is survived by her son, Reginald and his wife Nancy Pomeroy of Hebron; her daughter, Linda and her husband Scott Roberts of South Harpswell; three grandchildren, Michael Pomeroy of Hebron, Shanti and her husband Chris Skiffington of Watertown, Mass., Anjulee and her husband Rick Morris of Brunswick; and one great-grandson, Samuel Skiffington.
