AUGUSTA – The Maine Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Sports, Health and Wellness will again sponsor Project ACES (All Children Exercising Simultaneously) at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 5. The international event includes schools in all 50 states as well as 50 countries where children will exercise simultaneously to promote the benefits of being physically active.
Project ACES was started in 1989 by physical education teacher Len Saunders. He wanted to get one school in every state to exercise at the same time on a specific day in May to motivate his physical education classes to exercise. Last year Maine had more than 21,000 participants from 81 schools, one YWCA and four day cares.
