Farmington native and Olympic hopeful Kevin Eastler was one of two American racewalkers to break the U.S. record in the 10 kilometer racewalk in a race last week in Bergen, Norway.
Tim Seamons broke his own standard set seven months ago when he finished second in the race in 39 minutes, 23 seconds. Eastler placed third in 39:32 to also surpass the previous U.S. mark of 39:59.
Eric Tysse of Norway nipped Seamons to win the race in a Norwegian record of 39:22.
Eastler and Seamons are training in Norway to prepare for next weekend’s World Cup championships in Naumburg, Germany. They are working with renowned coach Stephan Platzer, who coached Tysse’s sister to the Olympic silver medal in Sydney.
Seamons, who beat Eastler in the World Cup trials held recently in Kansas, still has not met the “A” qualifying standard for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Eastler met the Olympic standard last year.
Lisbon High School senior Troy Clark will also compete next weekend at the World Cup as one of three Americans in the junior division.
