FARMINGTON – A workshop, Supporting Families in Transition, will be offered by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Franklin County. It is designed to help family members and friends through the transitions of separation, divorce and forming a stepfamily.

The workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon Thursday, May 6, at the Farmington Town Office. There is no cost for participants but they must register at least three days prior to the workshop, or by May 3.

“It can be a heartbreaking, frustrating struggle for grandparents to see their grandchildren and adult children going through the difficult transitions of separation, divorce or establishing a stepfamily,” said Wendy Legg Pollock, extension educator and leader of the workshop. “Caring relatives and friends often stand by not knowing what to do and, by default, end up keeping their distance during a time when their support could be very valuable.”

The workshop will help friends and family better understand the challenges and explore ways to be supportive to them during these times of family transition.

For more information or to register, phone the extension office at 778-4650 or 1-800-287-1478.
