GREENFIELD, Mass. – Erma B. (Luce) Bachelder, 85, formerly of North Monmouth, died Monday, April 26, at Franklin Medical Center.
She was born in Winthrop, on June 6, 1918, the daughter of the late Ervin and Jessie (Hammond) Kaherl. She attended Winthrop schools and had lived most of her life in the Winthrop and Fayette area. She was a homemaker and housekeeper. Her hobbies included collecting teddy bears and talking on the telephone with friends and family, of which she had many.
She is survived by a son, George Luce and his wife Marjorie of Ellsworth; two daughters, Frances Millhench and her husband Bruce of Santa Clarieta, Calif., Beverly Welcome and her husband Dennis of Deerfield, Mass.; a stepson, Roy Luce of Augusta; two brothers, Elwood “Mutt” Kaherl of Fox Lake, Ill., and Lawrence Kaherl of Winthrop; 10 grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Horace Luce in 1953; her second husband, David Bachelder in 1993; and her companion of five years, Sidney Chamberlain in 1998; a son, Edward Luce in 1985; and four brothers, Herman, George, Bill and Everett Kaherl.
