May 4, Teacher Appreciation Day, part of Teacher Appreciation Week, is meant for communities to show their support for those individuals who provide an environment for learning and nurturing our youth.

The teacher’s role has expanded over time to meet the needs of society and the expectations of communities and each level of government. Dedicated men and women enter classrooms determined to encourage each child to recognize their strengths, to set educational goals, to retain his or her individuality, and to become involved community members.

We have all been influenced by at least one educator, that person who believed in you and touched your heart. I encourage everyone to take a moment to write a note to a teacher or a former teacher expressing appreciation for their dedication to the education profession.
