MECHANIC FALLS – Tyrian Masonic Lodge 73, AF and AM, honored Poland Regional High School student Michael Maberry at a special dinner and presentation on March 27.

Nearly 50 attended the dinner and presentation that honored Maberry for his efforts to allow the Pledge of Allegiance to be recited at the high school.

Officiating at the presentation was Joshua Armstrong, acting master of Tyrian Lodge. Armstrong opened with a brief history of Masonry and how it ties in to what Maberry had accomplished. Armstrong said in his opening remarks that in today’s world of individual and self-appeasement, there are still youth like Michael Maberry, who can see that the greater good is more important.

Because of his leadership and efforts to bring the Pledge of Allegiance to Poland Regional High School, he has breathed life into inanimate words and helped to bring a larger meaning to his life and many others.

Maberry led the Pledge of Allegiance, after which State Rep. Lois Snowe-Mello spoke and presented him with a Maine flag that had been flown over the capitol in Augusta.

State Rep. Ted Heidrich addressed the gathering and presented Maberry with an American flag as well as a state pin.

Wrapping up the event was the presentation of a plaque honoring Maberry for his courage and leadership. The plaque was presented by Maberry’s grandfather and past master of Tyrian Lodge, Harry Wilson.
