When Communist Party Chairman Sam Webb spoke at L-A College in Lewiston on Thursday, his comments betrayed a vast ignorance of history as well as of reality. For instance, he says that the Soviet Union served as a counterweight to the United States in world affairs before 1989.
Hogwash! The Soviet Union was interested in world conquest. Its leaders wanted to create a worldwide communist police state through invasion, subversion and violent revolution. The ruling Communist Party’s symbol was a hammer and sickle, transfixed on a round globe that represented the world.
He also complains that communists don’t get good press or much press. Well, they don’t deserve any. Their ideology has led them to murder, torture, imprison unjustly and enslave more people than any other ideology ever has.
Furthermore, he says that socialism offers a better solution to all the problems facing humanity in today’s world. Socialism isn’t a solution. Socialism is the problem facing humanity today. Free market capitalism may need to be tempered, but the force for tempering it is Christianity, not socialism. Socialism, at its root, is nothing other than militant atheism.
Do not, however, take my word for it. Read a copy of Karl Marx’s “The Communist Manifesto,” then pick up the Bible and read the four gospels, the book of Acts and the Epistle to the Romans and compare them with Marx’s “masterpiece.” Then ask yourselves: “Who would I like to follow?”
