We have all heard about the problem with rollovers and SUVs. I happen to own an SUV. What concerns me is that rather than fix the engineering problem to make this vehicle less inclined to rollover, the manufacturer has affixed a sticker to my visor.
It states: “This is a multi-purpose passenger vehicle which handles differently from an ordinary passenger car in driving conditions which may occur on streets and highways or off road. As with other vehicles of this type, if you make sharp turns of abrupt maneuvers the vehicle may roll over or go out of control and crash.”
Thank goodness I use my visor, otherwise I may never have known the problem existed. I feel so much better.
I don’t think the manufacturer should get away with this. Our government, which regulates how much water our toilets can use, fails to see this as a problem.
I believe that the owners of these types of vehicles should be compensated for the inherent danger we face. I, for one, am having nightmares; the stress is unbearable. It seems the only way to be safe is to leave it in the driveway.
Ironically, weeks after I wrote this letter, I was in a rollover with most of my immediate family. Fortunately, there were no deaths. Looking at the pictures angers me. To tell the truth, I want someone to be responsible.
They knew and did nothing but affix a sticker. I could have lost my entire family.
