WARSAW, Poland (AP) – Venus Williams won her second straight WTA tournament Sunday, beating Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-1, 6-4 in the J&S Cup final.

Williams won for the 11th consecutive time, following her title run in Charleston, S.C., and two victories in the United States’ triumph over Slovenia in the Fed Cup. The winning streak is Williams’ longest since she took 19 straight matches in 2002.

The victory was especially satisfying for Williams, who had her mother Oracene in the stands. It was in the Warsaw final a year ago that a stomach muscle injury forced her to retire in the third set.

After playing through the French Open and Wimbledon with the injury, Williams was sidelined for the remainder of 2003.

Kuznetsova beat Williams in February in Dubai when the American was in the early stages of her comeback from her six-month injury break. But the Russian never looked comfortable Sunday.

Williams overwhelmed Kuznetsova in the first set with powerful groundstrokes, forcing her into errors. One of those gave Williams a break for 2-1, and a fierce service return trapped Kuznetsova into another error to give Williams a 4-1 lead.

After dropping her serve again to concede the first set, Kuznetsova called for the trainer and had the upper half of her left leg wrapped. When Williams broke again to lead 2-0, it appeared that the end would come swiftly.

But Williams started to struggle with her serve, hitting two double faults and Kuznetsova immediately recovered the break. Williams then failed to convert a break point to lead 4-3, but a poor service game from Kuznetsova at 5-4 allowed Williams to take her fifth break and the match.
