Liquor is still coming into Lewiston and Auburn and it is not all addressed to the liquor agencies either. Sheriff Cummings’ special deputies are also still on the lookout for suspicious looking packages and barrels and are seizing considerable stuff. Along about noon Tuesday a barrel of whiskey was taken from one of the express offices. Several gallons of beer, some gin and some excellent wines also fell into the hands of the deputies yesterday. Not a person has appeared in court to claim any of the beer which was taken last week.

Several Lewiston-Auburn filling station operators have reduced gasoline prices as the “gasoline war” continues in the Twin Cities. Many operators, who two weeks ago were selling high test gas for 26.9 cents a gallon, are now offering it two cents cheaper. Regular gas, formerly at 23.9 cents a gallon, also is down two cents to 21.9 cents at some stations. And, according to a large Twin Cities gasoline dealer, it’s going to be even cheaper in the immediate future. The dealer, who declined use of his name, said there is much surplus gasoline on the market at the present time.

Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Morin had a big (and beautiful) surprise waiting for them on their lawn when they returned to their home at 11 Pearl St. in Auburn within a short time of each other this morning. Mr. Morin had returned from an early mass and Mrs. Morin came home from an early dental appointment to find a St. Bernard dog tied up to the 60-foot chain which they have on their lawn for their own male St. Bernard which has been confined to the cellar following surgery. Each assumed the other had let their dog out until further investigation revealed the newcomer was about 50 pounds lighter in weight, a female and apparently a new mother. The markings and the facial features were almost identical to the Morin animal and the dog had what appeared to be a new 10-foot silver chain around her neck. She seems to be a pure bred Saint. If there is a litter of puppies looking for its mother, she’s being lovingly cared for on Pearl Street…but, Mrs. Morin points out, only on a temporary basis!
