LEWISTON – John W. Tracy, 65, of Turner went to be with the Lord May 2, at Central Maine Medical Center following a long illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Rome Dec. 30, 1938, the son of Leola Pomeroy and the late Walter Tracy. He attended Belgrade schools. On March 30, 1994, he married the former Sylvia Howard who survives him.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1963. While in the Navy he attended the Hospital Corps and Field Medical Schools and was attached to the U.S. Marines Corp as a Medical Corpsman.

Most of his adult life he worked in various private duty and health care facilities including Freeport Place, Sea Side, and Sabattus Residential Care. He was a dedicated and caring person as a CNA and Medication Technician in both Maine and Florida.

He was a past member of the American Legion Post 132 in Richmond, was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Auburn, and a past member of the Messalonskee Masonic Lodge and Shriners.

He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. He was a great fan of the Boston Red Sox. He also loved to birdwatch and in his spare time he enjoyed repairing birdfeeders. He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his wit and humor. He will be missed by his dog, “Spikey.”

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia of Turner; four daughters, Ellen Kenesick and husband Joe of Waldoboro, Joan Hamilton of Florida, Vanessa McFadden and husband Kevin of Sidney, and Valerie Stephenson of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Patricia Christopher of Lewiston; two stepsons, Daniel and Richard Thyng of Oakland; his mother and stepfather, Leola and William Pomeroy of Belgrade; two sisters, Jeanette Grevois and husband Gerald of Belgrade, and Gloria Gilbert and husband Bob of Norridgewock; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Walter Tracy; and his son, John Tracy Jr.
