Editor’s note: Every day there are rays of light that shine into the lives of people through their neighbors, their co-workers, their families and even through complete strangers. This column is devoted to exposing these sunbeams to the light and offering readers an opportunity to share good news. We plan to occasionally offer up our own sunbeams, too.
Respect

Winter has passed and spring has come. We must not get too far into the good weather before we forget the good times we had this past winter on our snowmobiles.

The members of the Rock-O-Dundee Rider’s Snowmobile Club of Oxford wish to thank all the gracious and generous landowners who allowed us to maintain snowmobile trails across their land this past season. If it weren’t for all the people across our great state and across the snowbelt, our sport would become defunct.

We owe you appreciation, gratitude, thanks and most of all respect. Please accept all of this and more from our club and all those who rode on our club trails this season. We all hope we can continue to earn your respect and keep our club-landowner relationship in good standing.

Suzanne Hall, secretary, Rock-O-Dundee Riders,

Oxford

Support

SeniorsPlus just wrapped up their March for Meals fund-raising campaign. The Rumford Senior Meal Site would like to thank the many people who supported us with donations to our penny jars, purchases of our Meals on Wheels cars and by attending our baked bean supper. Donations support our homebound clients receiving meals on wheels in the Rumford area.

Tradition

Maine landowners share a strong tradition of allowing the public to use their properties for outdoor recreation. This tradition is not found in many other parts of the country and is yet another value that makes this state a very special place to live.

The South Paris Snow Hoppers Snowmobile Club publicly thanks all the landowners in the town of Paris who allow us to enjoy the outdoors through their generosity, by giving us permission to use their properties for our snowmobile trails. We appreciate the landowners’ cooperation as the sport of snowmobiling continues to grow.

All that the landowners expect in return is that those using their properties show respect for the owner and for the land.

Recognition

My name is Ed Madden and I’m running for the Senate in District 17.

I met Chris Windhorst in front of Korn-Haus-Keller in the cold. He was working to raise funds for a trip to Australia as a youth ambassador. His sister is also raising money for the trip

I told him of his fine example to me standing there in the cold and collecting, and how I had spent the day meeting people and trying to get $5 checks in my district for my campaign. I put $1 in his bucket, wished him good luck. Standing inside waiting for a table, I was approached by Chris, and he offered me $5 for my campaign, saying it was his money and he wanted to do it.

I spread word around the restaurant about Chris’ generosity, and many people responded with donations for his trip.

After talking with Chris’ mom, I learned more about this fine young man and his sister. Lewiston Radiator had given them a check. After the business exploded, they tried to return it.

Chris and Kass have a proud mom. And she should be. The world is a great place and there are a lot of great people in it and together we all have to stand up and be counted. These hardworking kids deserve recognition.
