DUNNELLON, Fla. – Shirley K. Gomez, 64, of Dunnellon, Fla., passed away Saturday, May 1, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born May 7, 1939, at Central Maine General Hospital, the daughter of Vernal and Sadie Kimball. She was a resident of Hartford, and attended Canton High School and Bliss Business College in Lewiston.

She worked for the U.S. Government in Washington, D.C., where she married her husband, Ernest Gomez. She was a certified EKG technician for 20 years at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, and retired in 1990. She enjoyed gardening, walking the beach at Carolina Beach, N.C., and the Gulf Coast beaches of Florida, she was also an avid reader. She was also an advocate for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ernest; daughter, Julie L. Gomez of Lewiston; son, Daniel Gomez of Slidell, La.; granddaughters, Bobbie B. Salvidio, Anna Gomez and Sarah Elwell; grandson, Zachery Gomez; sister, Ruth Wentworth of Oxford.

She was predeceased by her parents; and brothers, Philip and Merle Kimball.
