JAY – Police arrested three people Saturday after they allegedly stole $85 in groceries from Hannaford at Jay Plaza.

Police charged Kathy Stevens, 33, of Lewiston, Scott Belenceau, 35, of Windham, and Teresa Doak, 22, of Waterville with theft in the case, Jay officer Roy Hodsdon said Hannaford reported the possible theft of groceries about 8:25 p.m. Saturday.

Clerks had tried to stop the people from leaving the store, he added, and then called police after they left the store.

Hodsdon and Sgt. Charles Keene responded to investigate but the people had left the parking lot in a vehicle.

Hodsdon said he located the three people in Livermore Falls and found the groceries in the car. There were a few deli bags and loose groceries in the vehicle, he said.

After reviewing the security tape and speaking to clerks all three were charged with theft, Hodsdon said.
