Conservation program

FARMINGTON – Franklin County Soil & Water Conservation District recently received a $3,000 grant from the Western Mountains Fund of the Maine Community Foundation to support Agricultural/Environmental Education Day, a one-day event held to show students the importance of agriculture and conservation of natural resources in their lives through hands-on learning stations.

The 14th annual Agricultural/Environmental Education Day will be held Sept. 13 at the Farmington Fairgrounds.

This grant will allow the district to purchase a laptop computer and software and to produce educational booklets for the event. It will also help with some of the expenses in the coordination of Ag Day. Approximately 1,200 students, teachers, and chaperones attend Ag Day each year. Schools, grades K-4, from Franklin County and parts of Androscoggin, Kennebec, Somerset and Oxford counties are invited to attend.
