PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Former Boston Celtics assistant coach Dick Harter was hired Wednesday by the Philadelphia 76ers as an assistant.

Harter and new Sixers coach Jim O’Brien also worked together in Boston. When O’Brien resigned, Harter was let go by the Celtics. Harter has worked for over 50 seasons as both a head coach and an assistant coach. He was Charlotte’s first head coach, serving from 1988 until 1990. Harter is a member of the Big Five Hall of Fame and the University of Pennsylvania Hall of Fame. He followed Jack McCloskey at Penn and led the Quakers to an 88-44 record from 1966-71. His best year came in 1970-71 when the Quakers finished the season 28-1, eventually losing to Villanova in the NCAA Tournament.
