SOUTH PARIS – Lewiston pitcher Amanda Michaud showed excellent control as she lead the Blue Devils to a 5-3 victory over Oxford Hills Wednesday in Class A softball.
The Blue Devils (7-5) were sparked in the fourth inning, recording four of their five runs. Megan Marcoux, Steph Lagasse, and Nicole Caron each hit RBI singles, and a double steal by Lewiston led to one more run. Kim Bechard hit a single, knocking in Amanda Michaud in the seventh for an insurance run.
Natasha Dubois smacked a double, the only extra base hit of the game, for the Vikings (7-5).
Boothbay 6, Lisbon 5
BOOTHBAY – Kylie Higgins and Mallory Clark belted out RBI singles to lead Boothbay to a narrow 6-5 victory over Lisbon in MVC softball action Wednesday.
Aimee Wilcox pitched a complete game for the Seahawks (2-2), allowing six hits while recording her second win of the season.
Dominique Mathieu, Krystal Doughty, Nikki Strople and Kim Campbell led the Greyhounds (5-2) with two hits each. Losing pitcher Andrea Piela allowed four runs in three innings.
Telstar 9, Winthrop 2
BETHEL – Jillian Kimball hit a bases-loaded triple in the second inning to blow open the contest, leading Telstar to an eventual 9-2 triumph over Winthrop.
Kimball also struck out five batters on the mound for the Rebels, and shut out the Ramblers after the third inning. Ashley Stambolis hit a two-run double in the second for the Rebels’ (5-0) win. Kayla Mills and Santana Wilson each hit doubles for the victory as well.
Jay 14, Mountain Valley 0
RUMFORD – Jay’s Bre Loon threw no-hitter to shutout MountainValley as the Tigers cruised to a 14-0 victory in an MVC softball contest Wednesday afternoon.
The Tigers (5-0) jumped out to a five-run first inning and plated another nine in the second inning before the scoring settled down.
The Falcons (1-3) committed a total of nine errors, while pitchers Kelley Palmer and Abby Mills allowed just four hits over five innings in the loss.
Livermore 7, Monmouth 4
MONMOUTH – Krista Allen led Livermore Falls with three hits as the Andies took a 7-4 win from Monmouth in softball action Wednesday.
The Mustangs (1-3) scored first with a pair of runs in the fourth inning and led until the sixth when the Andies (3-4) capitalized on walks and a four-hit inning to take a 4-2 lead.
Monmouth tied the contest in the bottom of the sixth, but allowed Livermore to regain a three-run lead. The Mustangs failed to score their baserunners in the last half of the seventh to go down in defeat.
EL 19, Mt. Blue 0
FARMINGTON – Allison Sasser and Allison Keene combined for five hits and two RBIs to pace Edward Little to a 19-0 romp over Mt. Blue in KVAC softball action. Jen Verrill twirled a complete game for the Red Eddies (1-2), allowing just one hit to notch the win.
Alice Ross recorded the only hit for the Cougars (0-9), while Brittany Rand made her first appearance, allowing eight runs in the first three innings of play.
Mt. Abram 9 Dirigo 4
DIXFIELD – Sadie White had a pair of hits and scored three runs to pace Mt. Abram to a 9-4 win over Dirigo in eight innings of softball action Wednesday afternoon.
Dirigo pitcher Jessica Meader prevented the Roadrunners (5-3) from gaining any real traction during regulation play, allowing only two hits and scattering four runs. However, Meader gave up three of her seven walks and four singles in the eighth frame to give Mt. Abram a five-run spurt for the win. Megan Russell was perfect at the plate with three hits, including a double for the Cougars (0-8). Jessica Blaisdell and Michelle Holmquist had a pair of hits apiece as Dirigo outhit Mt. Abram 9-6.
Buckfield sweeps
BUCKFIELD – Shayna Shackford ripped an RBI single in the eighth inning to lift Buckfield to a 16-15 win over NYA in Game 1 of a high school softball doubleheader Wednesday. Tiffany Dunn tallied three hits for the Bucks (5-1), while pitcher Desiree Brackett added a pair of hits. Brackett hurled a complete game and earned the win.
Karen Hyndman led the Panthers (0-4) with three hits apiece, while Candace Meyers and Tabby Smith tallied two hits each. Holly Moon went the distance on the hill, allowing 11 hits while taking the loss.
In the nightcap, Shackford went 4-for-4 with three RBIs to propel Buckfield to a 9-7 win, sweeping the doubleheader. Dunn and Brackett were productive once again, putting doubles on the board for the Bucks. Brackett handled pitching duties in game two as well, allowing 10 hits while notching the victory.
Lacrosse
Mountain Valley 15, Messalonskee 13
RUMFORD – Jessica Allen was solid offensively, netting seven goals and recording one assist as Mountain Valley slipped past Messalonskee with a 15-13 victory in girls’ lacrosse action Wednesday.
The contest went back and forth, with the Falcons behind by two at the half. The Falcons (3-4) came from behind to record the triumph with help from Sam Johnson with six goals and an assist, while Gail Manson chipped in with two goals as well.
Sara Stevens and Sarah Sturgell combined for 11 goals for the Eagles (4-2), while Abby Tonge and Jenna Letterberger made up the difference.
