BATH – Judge Joseph Field and Attorney Ned Chester will lead a panel discussion on the “Current State of the Juvenile Justice System” in Maine and in Sagadahoc County from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 13, at the CED Building, Wing Farm Parkway.

After individual presentations, there will be a question and answer session. The event is open to all professionals, service providers, school personnel and the public. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided.

Journalist to lecture at Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK – Renowned journalist and political activist Jonah Goldberg will give a lecture titled “An Evening with Jonah Goldberg” at Bowdoin College at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, may 11, in Kresge Auditorium, Visual Arts Center.

Sponsored by the Bowdoin College Republicans, the lecture is free and open to the public.

A public reception will follow the lecture.

Civil War open house planned

YARMOUTH – The Haskell-Marston Camp 56 and Auxiliary, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, will sponsor a Civil War Open House on from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 30, at the Casco Lodge Masonic Hall, Mill Street.

Admission is free; donations will be appreciated. Refreshments will be served.

Exhibits will include Civil War weapons, clothing, medical equipment and books, as well as Grand Army of the Republic memorabilia. Members will be on hand to help trace Civil War ancestors.

A flag retirement ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. Bring a worn-out flag or drop it off at Goff’s Hardware in Yarmouth. Contact Robert Bishop, 846-5689, for more information.

New Web site

UNITY – The Eat Local Foods Coalition announces the launch of www.eatlocalfoods.org. The goal of the Web site is to help people in Maine to “eat local” by connecting them with their local farmer, farmer’s market and community supported agriculture project.

Eat Local Foods Coalition is a nonprofit coalition of individuals and organizations committed to promoting and increasing in-state consumption of Maine farm products.
