OXFORD – Plans for KIDS KAMP are under way with some logistical changes this year.
KIDS KAMP is an eight-week summer day camp enrichment program for school-age children sponsored by Gateway to the Shire, a local nonprofit children’s service organization.
For the past seven years KIDS KAMP has operated out of the Guy E. Rowe Elementary School in Norway. This year the camp will transfer to the Madison Avenue Elementary School next to the Ames Plaza on Route 26.
There are many theme weeks planned, which will include field trips on Fridays. The summer schedule will start with a “Plants and Flowers” theme. Campers will have an opportunity to plant flowers and learn about their development while watching them grow and visit a local garden.
“Maine History” week will follow with a visit to a historic Maine village. Other themes include the favorite, “Hooked on Fishing,” along with conservation, Native American, kites, pottery and a Mardi Gras celebration during the final week.
Swimming lessons will be offered at Norway Lake for three weeks in July in conjunction with the Norway/Paris Recreation program. There will also be an ongoing reading program throughout the summer. USDA approved breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack will be provided through the Child Care Food Program.
KIDS KAMP hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The program will start June 21. The camp will be closed the week of July 5 to 9.
There are limited number of scholarships available so anyone interested must apply now. The deadline for camp registration is June 1. For more information or for registration materials call Kids Konnection at 743-0723.
