FARMINGTON – Information on employment, adult services and housing options for special needs children after high school will be presented in a panel discussion and individual talks starting at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 13, in the North Dining Hall at the University of Maine at Farmington. Service providers with housing, adult service and employment will present information regarding their services, how to access them and what they can do for children. The event includes a panel discussion and one-on-one talks with service providers. This is a free event. Refreshments and childcare services will be available. Celebration slated

FARMINGTON – Sandy River Nursing Care Center will celebrate National Nursing Home Week starting Sunday, May 9. The center is planning a week of events including a special day and special treats for each department, Mothers Day brunch, May baskets, ice cream social and more. The week will end with a potluck supper and a talent show on May 15. People who would like to join some of the activities, help plan events or visit or tour may contact the center at 778-6591.

Candlelight vigil

JAY – A candlelight vigil for Kim Moreau, who has been missing for 18 years, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at Saint Rose Church parking lot on Main Street. The public is welcome to show their respects. For more information call 897-4895.

Nutrition classes

FARMINGTON – To encourage healthy food choices for older people, SeniorsPlus and the University of Maine Cooperative Extension have teamed up to bring nutrition classes to people living in senior housing in Franklin County. A class will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, in the dining room of Ethel Walton Apartments. Classes will also be held at 10 a.m. June 16 in the Community Room of the Hazel Thompson apartments and 1:30 p.m. in the dining room at Deer Crossing Apartments. There will be a class at Village View in Wilton at 1:30 p.m. on June 22. People are welcome to attend any of the classes. Each session will have a follow-up class two weeks later. Classes are free and include healthy snacks. One-on-one counseling for people who have special dietary needs will be available. For more information contact Sandy Gregor at SeniorsPlus at 645-3315.
