I have long been proud to live in a country that allows us the freedom not only to elect those who represent us, but to criticize them as well. There are many places in the world where that cannot be done without fear of retribution.

However, even in doing this, there are tacit rules of decency that ought to prevail.

I was appalled to open my Sunday paper May 2, turn to section D and see Paul Wolfowitz, Vice President Cheney and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld depicted as chimpanzees. This strikes me as a new low in trash journalism.

There is a certain dignity that attaches to those offices, even if we are not impressed by the men who currently hold them.

Did Sun Journal have a right to print that? Of course. And, the next time I see something like that, I will exercise my right to pick up the phone and cancel my subscription.
