AUGUSTA – The Lewiston Maineiacs, the only United States-based member of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, were honored by the Maine Legislature on March 31.

The Maineiacs gained attention and a loyal fan base during their first season in Lewiston, making their way to the first round of the league playoffs. Among those fans are local members of the Maine Legislature, including Elaine Makas, D-Lewiston, who sponsored the sentiment.

“I rarely missed a game,” said Makas, a season ticket holder. “The team brings a real sense of energy and unity to the Lewiston area, and we wanted to show that we appreciate their joining our community.”

The sentiment, co-sponsored by the Androscoggin County delegation including season ticket holders Rep. Lillian O’Brien and Rep. Bob Berube, expressed gratitude for the team’s positive contributions to the community and congratulations on a successful first season. Signed originals of the sentiment were given to each team member as well as the coaching and administration staff.
