Once again, our Maine lawmakers have taken the easy way out to deal with financial shortcomings. After being forced to pay an added amount on our state income tax because we bought goods outside of Maine, our own sales tax might increase.

You would think with all the gray matter supposedly representing our interests in the state Legislature, someone could come up with better solutions, such as adding extra charges to purchase prices of devices meant to purposely increase noise levels in our cities. Just think of all the income the state could make as a result of purchases of manufacturer “enhanced” vehicle sound systems, exhaust systems and ATVs, which often frequent the actual streets of Lewiston.

The bottom line here is that purchases we make outside the state are the least of our concerns compared to the physical and psychological well-being of our residents. So, let’s extract some money from those who disturb our peace.
