BOWDOIN – Bruce Coleman Anderson died Saturday, May 8, at home, after a long courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 31, 1937 in Geneva, Ill., the son of the late Roy and Ida Coleman Anderson.

He graduated from Geneva High School in 1955. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1960. He was President of Triangle, an engineering fraternity. He also received an MBA degree from New York University in 1973.

He served in the Illinois Air National Guard from 1962 to 1968. He married Barbara A. Henning on March 2, 1963.

He began his telephone company career with Illinois Bell Telephone in Chicago as a management trainee in 1960. In 1969, he took a position with AT&T in New York City as Assistant Engineering Manager, Private Line Costs. He retired from AT&T in 1987 as Division Marketing Manager, Government and Special Pricing.

He and Barbara moved to Maine in 1987 from Morris Plains, N.J. From 1989 to 1999, he was an adjunct professor of economics at New Hampshire College at BNAS Brunswick.

He served on the Town of Bowdoin Planning Board for 10 years.

He loved doing woods management on his farm with his 1951 Ford 8N tractor. He was a raspberry gardener and an excellent cook. Besides playing piano by ear, he will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his writing ability. He could fix anything with his own brand of “Swedish engineering.”

He is survived by his wife of 41 years; a daughter, Kristin Hovey and husband, Will of Foxboro, Mass.; a son, Kent of New York City; a son, Keith of Brunswick; two grandchildren, Olivia and Coleman Hovey of Foxboro, Mass.; a sister, Linda O’Gara of Batavia, Ill. and 8 nieces and nephews.
