MEXICO – Selectmen will kick off their regular meeting Wednesday night with a series of public hearings, including one that asks residents whether they want a section of the town designated as a Pine Tree Zone.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Town Office.
A section of land east of the intersection of Route 2 and Veterans Memorial Bridge has been named a potential Pine Tree Zone.
Those zones provide state-supported tax breaks for specific businesses that decide to locate in one.
Comments will be taken on that proposal, as well as on several victualer, liquor or hawkers and peddlers licenses, including those for Tommy Guns Pitstop on Route 17, Oakdale Country Club and several restaurants.
In other business, the board will review and sign the warrant for the annual town meeting, which is set for June 7, and the SAD 43 warrant.
The vote on the school district’s budget will be June 8.
Also, the board will discuss town-owned property, the federal Patriot Act and Maine Municipal Association open seats.
A closed session is scheduled to take up a personnel matter.
