AUBURN – More than 100 individuals attended a two-day conference focusing on refugee mental health issues on April 14 and 15 at St. Philip’s Church.
The keynote speaker was a nationally-know expert on refugee mental health issues, Capt. John J. Tuskan. Tuskan is assigned to the Center of Mental Health Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C.
Participants attended from a variety of organizations, including city and state government, social service mental health providers and representatives from the refugee community.
The conference was sponsored by Catholic Charities Maine, the cities of Lewiston and Portland, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and the Portland/Lewiston Refugee Collaborative.
