LEWISTON – Josh Erskine and his band will perform a free concert from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 14. The event will be hosted by Just Joan’s Café at its Mr. Paperback location.

Erskine and his band will play eclectic jazz, blues and alternative rock.

The band will include his longtime collaborator Andrew Vachon, Stan Dzengelewski and Scott Turner on drums. Erskine and Vachon have shared stages with Letters to Cleo and De la Soul.

Dzengelewski, a jazz bass guitar player from Lewiston and Turner, will perform on the drum kit as well as on various instruments used in Middle Eastern and Asian music.

“Café 9009 Decaffeinated,” a solo project of acoustic guitar work, was released by Josh Erskine last May.

Every Wednesday night, Erskine will host an open forum in the Just Joan’s Café at Mr. Paperback.

It will be an open mike event for music, poetry and literature. All forms of art are welcome.

The open mike will begin Wednesday, May 12, and continue every Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m.
