Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. France created an impregnable defense against Germany before World War II called the Maginot Line. Hitler, not being an idiot, sent his troops around the Maginot Line and captured it from the French side. Bin Laden, not being an idiot, is intending to attack the United States in the U.S., where it is most vulnerable, rather than in Iraq where it is best prepared.
After our next Sept. 11, George Bush won’t accept any responsibility. He’ll say, “How could anyone have possibly foreseen it.”
