A three-year pact has been proposed for the district’s 160 teachers.

RUMFORD – SAD 43 directors on Monday are expected to ratify a three-year contract for the district’s 160 teachers.

The current contract expires on Aug. 31. Superintendent Jim Hodgkin said the teachers’ bargaining unit of the Mountain Valley Teachers’ Association has already approved the new pact.

The board is also expected to act on a proposal that would establish a district-run day treatment program for special needs children.

As discussed at the last board meeting, the program would provide special services for about 10 kindergarten through eighth-grade youngsters who are bused to either Wilton or Lewiston for services. The program would be set up in a section of Meroby Elementary School for 2004-05 at a cost of about $240,000.

Meanwhile the district will continue to try to work out a more permanent facility that could provide similar services for older students.

Other agenda items include: action on student handbooks for Virginia, Rumford and Meroby elementary schools and Mountain Valley Middle School; an update on when Maine Learning Results must go into effect; action on several central office employee contracts; and several staff appointments and resignations.

The board will also meet in a closed session to discuss the upcoming evaluation of the superintendent.
