WILTON – Selectmen plan to certify a copy of a proposed Boat Launching Ordinance, when they meet Tuesday. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Town Office.

After a public hearing last month, officials decided to send the proposed ordinance to voters in June. The proposed ordinance would regulate the boat launches at the foot of Wilson Lake and off Pond Road. It would not apply to Kineowatha Park or private boat launches on the lake.

The proposed ordinance was presented to selectmen last December by Wynn Muller, president of Friends of Wilson Lake.

It’s designed to protect the water quality in Wilson Lake and to promote the safety of people who use the boat launch. Under the proposed ordinance, special activity permits, including the annual Blueberry Festival, can be granted by the town manager or his designee. Selectmen will serve as a type of appeals board. Any activities cannot last for more than three days.

The proposed ordinance prohibits doing laundry, washing vehicles, refueling and discharging waste in the boat launch area.

Common courtesy’

It also includes “common courtesy rules,” such as no swimming, parking or building fires in the area. The ordinance, which would be enforced by the Wilton Police Department, would carry penalties from $50 to $1,000, depending on the violation and number of violations.

Also during Tuesday’s meeting, selectmen plan to write down and agree on whom the Town Report will be dedicated to this year. They will not release that information to the public to make sure it is a surprise, they said. Annual elections will take place along with the state elections Tuesday, June 8. The annual town meeting will reconvene at Academy Hill School the following Monday, June 14, at 6:30 p.m.

In other business, Town Manager Peter Nielsen plans to announce that interviews for the recently vacated public works foreman position will be held May 24 and 25. Nielsen said 13 applications for the job were received.

Ken Vining resigned from that position after 27 years of service to the town. His resignation became effective April 16. Vining said in a letter to officials that he was resigning for “numerous personal reasons.”

Officials will also hear a quarterly report from Recreation Director Frank Donald and discuss the spring cleanup of town cemeteries. The cleanup will include resetting stones, repairing ruts and replacing old pavement.
