WATERVILLE – Robert M. Ames, 73, died Friday, May 14, at Oak Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center in Waterville.

Born in Farmington, Oct. 13, 1930, the son of Hazen and Hilda (Wing) Ames, he grew up in Flagstaff and attended Flagstaff schools.

He had been employed on the Kennebec Log Drive for many years. He assisted in the surveying operation for flooding of Flagstaff. He worked in a wood novelty mill in Stratton and was a gondola operator at Sugarloaf Mountain.

He had the nickname of Motorcycle Bob and enjoyed maintaining and riding his motorcycle.

He was predeceased by a sister Beulah Skilling.

Survivors include a sister, Geraldine Bandlow and husband, Richard of Springvale; a brother, Richard Ames of Hawaii; nieces, Kathy Bandlow of South Portland and Donna Church of Lancaster, N.H.; nephews, Terry Davis of Scarborough and Alan Davis of Florida; grandniece, Kristen Davis of Scarborough and grandnephews, Patrick Church of Lancaster, N.H. and Craig and Erik Joncas of Scarborough.
