HARTFORD – Recreation Chairman June Davis held her committee meeting for cleaning up the Hartford beach on Monday afternoon on the shore of Lake Anasagunticook.

With swimming lessons beginning on July 12, the committee is eager to get the beach in order. This involves putting out the buoys to mark the swimming area, raking along the waters edge, picking up trash, sanding and staining the picnic tables and doing some repairs on one table bench and the railing along the boardwalk.

In order to get to the beach from the parking lot, there is a trail from the parking area at the end of Thompson Lane. The trail winds through lush green fern and moss vegetation before you enter the boardwalk that runs over the more marshy area. Emerging on the white sand beach you arrive at the lake.

Davis and her committee consisting of Arlene Nason, Elizabeth Marston and Elizabeth Gravalos hope to have all the residents of Hartford come on cleanup day at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 23. The committee hopes to get the buoys in the water on Sunday. Helpers will need rakes, trash bags and wheelbarrows for transporting trash back to the parking lot.

Swimming lessons will run from July 12 through the 23 and will be from 2 to 4 for the towns of Hartford, Sumner and Canton. For more information on the cleanup or swimming lessons, call June Davis at 388-2426 or Arlene Nason at 224-7355.
