FARMINGTON – An upgrade to Franklin Memorial Hospital’s telephone system on Thursday will create a temporary outage to their phone system.

The majority of incoming calls will receive a busy signal for two hours rather than the switchboard operator or other personnel.

The outage will take place Thursday beginning at about 1:30 p.m. and lasting about two hours. Emergency phone lines and cell phones will be provided to key hospital departments, leaving patient safety unaffected, a spokesman said.

According to Jon Harvell, information systems director, “We do not have the option of doing this upgrade after-hours and have tried to pick a time with the least usage of the system. We apologize in advance for this unparalleled inconvenience.”

Physician offices and the public are asked to avoid calling the hospital during the time of the upgrade except in the event of urgent matters, for which they can call 778-9828.

In the event of a true emergency, the public is reminded to always call 9-1-1.
