AUBURN – The Wesleyan Singers of the United Methodist Church of Auburn will perform a cantata, “Prayers for the Nations,” at 7 p.m. Friday, May 21, at the church, 439 Park Ave. All are invited to take part in the evening of music, prayer and reflection.
“Prayers for the Nations,” music written by Lloyd Larson, is a worship experience built around prayers for such goals as peace, unity, justice, healing and hope.
The evening will include prayers for world leaders who are charged with the responsibility of ensuring freedom and the pursuit of happiness for all. It will include prayers for those of who serve in relative anonymity throughout the community. The piece is global in nature.
The Wesleyan Singers, under the direction of Sue Barre, will perform a number of the choral selections, which will include such pieces as “Hear Our Prayers, O Prince of Peace” and “We Shall Overcome.” Norma Rice-Gould will accompany on piano and Pastor Richard Cullen will serve as narrator.
