EUSTIS – A Stratton man was arrested Sunday for allegedly possessing 2.5 ounces of marijuana broken down into 22 individual bags.

Jeffrey Brochu, 34, of School Street was charged with aggravated trafficking in a Schedule Z drug, marijuana, said Gerry Baril, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency special agent supervisor.

A U.S. Border Patrol agent came across Brochu in his vehicle on Dead River Road, Baril said.

Brochu had six bags of marijuana on his person, Baril said, and in a subsequent search of his home, agents discovered 16 more bags.

There were 22 individually packaged bags each containing 1/8 of an ounce or 3.5 grams of marijuana, Baril said.

A set of electronic scales were found on top of gun cabinet, which contained at least six rifles and shotguns, and two pistols, he said.

Brochu also had $1,300 in cash on his person and $2,300 in cash at his home, Baril said, that is believed to be connected with the sale of drugs.

The on-call Franklin County MDEA agent, Vernon Stevens, was called to Stratton to deal with the case, Baril said.

The Border Patrol agent transported Brochu to the Franklin County jail, he said.

Brochu was released Sunday on $5,000 unsecured bail. He has a court date of July 28 in 12th District Court in Farmington.
