WOODSTOCK – Selectmen voted unanimously Tuesday to change the Town Office hours starting June 1 to 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. instead of the current hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Town Manager Vern Maxfield said the change would allow him and his staff to take better advantage of the longer daylight hours. Usually, the half hour from 4:30 to 5 p.m. is a time when there is very little business on any given day, he said.
“We would like to change the hours on a trial basis from June until October,” said Maxfield. “And if it doesn’t work out, we can change back.”
“I don’t have a problem with it and, like you say, we can change back to the original hours at any time if the new hours don’t work out,” said Selectman Leon Poland.
Colleagues Steve Bies and Judy Bennett agreed that the town should give the new hours a try for the summer.
In other business, Maxfield announced that he has received notice from the Federal Emergency Management Agency that the town will soon receive $34,774 in emergency funds to help repair damage to town roads incurred during the heavy rainstorms last December.
“The money is to be used to repair damage done by the heavy December rains on the Concord Pond Road and the Granite Ledge Road in the Shag Pond area. This will be a big help to us in fixing several washouts and cleaning ditches that were filled during the storms,” he said.
The money is expected to arrive soon.
Finally, gifts of $2,500 were given to the town by resident Phil Gut for use by the Recreation Committee at the new community activity center on Railroad Street and the recently completed fire station addition.
Maxfield and the board said that the gifts are much appreciated, and a vote of thanks will be forwarded to Gut for his generosity.
