LOVELL – Henry and Shirley Hamilton will speak about Afghanistan at 7 p.m. Friday, May 21, at the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library during the monthly speaker program.

The Hamiltons worked as relief workers in Afghanistan in 2002 and 2003 after the Taliban collapsed. They spend two years helping rebuild villages and aiding returning refugees.

Hamilton will present a slide show, read from his journal and bring artifacts and clothes to create a picture of the country.

His wife will tell about her experience as a western women in a Muslim society scarred by decades of war and Taliban rule.

Plant sale

LOVELL – A Memorial weekend plant sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 29, on the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library front lawn.

The Eastman Hill Stock Farm will donate 150 pots of perennials.

The library welcomes donations of plants and seedlings. Anyone who would like to help with the fund-raiser can call the library at 925-3177.

Anniversary

OXFORD – Oxford Chapter 168, Order of the Eastern Star, will celebrate its 90th anniversary Thursday, June 3, with a 6 p.m. supper followed by special music provided by the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School music department. A stated meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Masonic Temple, Norway.

Past matrons or members who have any old photos or newspaper articles for display are asked to contact Ann Bickford at 743-6434.
